TAICHUNG, TAIWAN (March 25, 2012) – The Annual Meeting of Taiwan Surgical Association was held at Taipei Veterans General Hospital during 3/15/2013 to 3/16/2013. In this meeting, foreign speakers were invited to join this conference as well as surgical professionals in Taiwan. The agenda focused on the latest surgical techniques and case reports in different field.
Dr. Yu, Chao-Chin in Tainan Municipal Hospital devotes himself to wound care management, especially in difficult wounds or chronic wounds. He has been published over 30 papers regarding to wound care which makes him be a wound expert in Taiwan. In this meeting, he published a successful case applied BCT silver-impregnated wound dressing.
Patient is female with medical history of hypertension and diabetes mellitus. She was hospitalized with Necrotizing Fasciitis. Dr. Yu performed debridement and Split-Thickness Skin Graft (STSG) surgery and then treated her wounds with Negative Pressure Wound Treatment and managed the infections with antibiotics. However, both ways failed to stop the skin-eating by bacteria. Therefore, Dr. Yu chose BCT silver-impregnated wound dressings to manage the infections. BCT antimicrobial dressings successfully inhibited the growth of bacteria and promoted the granulation of skin. As to this case, Dr. Yu agreed with the effects of BCT silver-impregnated wound dressing. BCT antimicrobial dressing can control the infection of recipient site after STSG surgery, elevating the survival rate of the new skin tissues and, therefore, speeding the wound healing.
